Prohibiting the Evil

Allah described the Muslims as the best of people, the best of creation, the best of all those he has created from mankind

Why we are the best is because we enjoin the good and forbid the evil.

He also said:

Abu Saeed al Khudri also reported that the messenger (s) said; “Whoever from amongst you see an evil then let him change it with his hand if he cannot then let him change it with his tongue and if he cannot do that then let him have hatred for it in his heart, and that is the weakest of faith.”(Abu Dawood, Nissai)

If we do not forbid the evil then we will indeed ALL be punished

Abu Bakr al Mirwazi read that the messenger (s) said: “Indeed when a people see an oppressor and do not take him by his hand (advise him) or when they see an evil and do not change it Allah will generalise the punishment for them all.” (Musnad Abu Yala, and Tahaawi, and Ibnu Hibban)

Fear of the people should not prevent us from prohibiting the evil

Abu Saeed al Khudri reported that the Prophet (s) said: “Let not the fear of the people prevent anyone of you from speaking the truth if he knows it.” Abu Saeed then said: ‘we did not stop undergoing hardships and problems until we became negligent’ (Ahmed, Ibn Hibbaan, and Tayaalisee)

We will be questioned By Allah for why we did not forbid an evil

On the Day of Judgment Allah will Ask; “what prevented you from prohibiting the evil when you saw it?” (Ibn Maja, Ahmad)

If we do not forbid the evil then we too will be destroyed with the one who commits it

Numan bin Bashir was on the member and said: Oh people prevent the foolish amongst you for indeed I heard the messenger (s) say: “There was once a community of people who boarded a ship, so each person took his seat. One of them took out a saw and began to saw a whole in the base of the ship. So they all said to him what are you doing? He said, this is my seat I ca do what I like in my space. So if they prevented him they would all survive and so would he, but if they left him they would have all drowned including him. So prevent the foolish before you all are destroyed. (Ibn Mubaarik in a zuhud, Bukhari, Tirmidhi)

Having said all this, enjoying good and forbidding evil had rules and regulations and a method it is not left up to the Muslim to decide how and when to do it.

Patience after forbidding the evil:

“Oh you who believe stand out firmly for justice as witnesses to Allaah even if it is against yourselves or your parents, or your kin..”

[An-Nisaa’ (4):135]

Waraqa bin Noufal Foretold Patience is Needed

The messenger after he was first given the revelation was in shock, he was scared, he was confused, and he had doubts! Was this what has come to him from Allah or from shaytan!, was it good or was it bad, was it beneficial or was it harmful.

These questions he asked himself are very similar to the questions some Muslims are asking themselves about the action we took last Friday.

The answer to their doubts are in this same story: when the Prophet went to Waraqa bin Naufal bin Asad bin ‘Abdul ‘Uzza the cousin of Khadeejah who was the most knowledgably person about the bible, that was alive. This is what happened:

He Noufal asked the Messenger to turn around and lift up his kamees – when he did so, he saw the sign of Prophethood on his back and said to the messenger (s): “you are the awaited Prophet we have been waiting for. I am an old and feeble man, if Allah gives me life until the time comes when your people turn you out and fight you I will support you and fight with you. Then the messenger (s) said: will my people turn me out when I am their awaited prophet? Noufal replied: “No Prophet came before you with the same call except their own people turned them out, and went against them.”

So after the Prophet (s) thought what he was upon was evil, bad, wrong, from shaytan and harmful.  He realised it was not so, he was upon good, clarity, and beneficial.

What Noufal said to the messenger is exactly applicable to us today!! Our people will go against us, they will not accept the forbidding of the evil, because of their own sinning, weakness, incorrect ideology, and misleading methodology.

Standing for the Haq will cause people from ourselves to appose us, and even leave us!

The Messenger (s) said: “there will always be a group of my Ummah clearly and openly upon the truth, no harm will come to them from those who appose them, and not from those who abandon them.”

So this hadeeth is perfect for our condition today, it explains how those who have become weak should behave and feel.

Clearly upon the truth – means to make this haq apparent, make it clear for all, do not hide it, and do not confuse it, forbidding the evil without fearing the difficulties and hardships that follow.

No harm will come to them form those who appose them – at the head of them are; the takfiri’s the muhajiroon, then those who say we have caused disunity, then those who say we may cause more harm. It also includes the right wing extremists and the media who may turn against us!

Those who say – you have showed Islam to be divided, and disunity – oh my dear brother – Are we united in the first place! To claim such Muslim unity of course not, and secondly if we take this opinion then let’s also remain silent about those who preach kill the non Muslims, let us remain silent on those who claim interest is halaal, let us remain silent about those who call to shirk and bidda!!

If the messenger was alive he would never remain silent, if the companions were alive they would have fought such people. We claim to follow their way, then at the least we can do is forbid the evil openly with wisdom!

Disunity is caused by them – they are the ones you should be blaming and exposing. Unity must have some basis – what is this basis, it is the Quran and Sunnah upon the understanding of the companions. How ca we unite upon many different ideologies, and many different methodologies, it is incomprehensible to unite with so many groups.

No harm will come to them from those who abandon them:

This is referring to the people who are upon the truth, then abandon the truth and abandon the people calling to this truth. We ask Allah jala wa ala to make us not of those who abandon the truth and abandon the people striving to make the truth clear, even if we have hardships and difficulties from our friends, relatives and others.

So good patience (is what we shall do) and Allah’s help is sought against the evil words they say about us

Labelling Salafis as Munafiqeen

Abu Dawood asked Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal: the one who enjoins good does he curse and speak ill? he replied: “it is as I the one who is enjoining the good and forbidding the evil does not want to be aided (by Allah) after his effort.”

Those muhajiroon, shouted at us the following names, you munafiq, you jaahil, you sell outs. They openly call us all munafiqs – do you know what they mean by this! – but we rejoice because we knew from before that Allah will never help them, and now Allah showed us though their reaction that he will not help them over those who are upon the sunnah.

“Everything of a Muslim is sacred to a Muslim: his property, honour, and blood.  It is enough evil for a man to despise his Muslim brother.”

[Abu Daawood: 4868]

Saying we call ourselves moderate!

“Thus we have made you a nation justly balanced, that you maybe a witness over the people and the messenger a witness over yourselves.” [Al-Baqarah (2):143]

“Oh people of the book!  Commit no excess in your religion nor say anything of Allaah but the truth…” [An-Nisaa’ (4):171]

They say we don’t care about what is happening to Muslims around the world, but we care about the non-Muslims!

A slander and lie you all know how much qanoot we did during the Zionist invasion of Gaza, we spoke even from this mimbar – but with wisdom, clear speech, without exaggeration and considering harms and benefits. Then they say we are siding with the disbeliever’s against our Muslim brothers

They are upon takfeer, they are upon the manhaj of the kahwarij- they are danger!
